EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT
It has been another very busy and productive year at the North GA RESA. As the executive director, I am completing my third year. Please know that the staff has worked extremely hard in providing Excellence in Educational Support to our member schools and districts during the past three years. In addition to the educational support they provide, they have rebuilt the North GA RESA into an effective agency that supports our schools and provides needed professional learning and timely department of education workshops on current trends, and the changing mandates and governing policies.
In addition to our routine work as described above, several new events and programs have been added to our RESA work during this past year. Two separate Aspiring Leaders programs were completed by two cohorts of teacher leaders aspiring to become building administrators, we increased our course offerings as an approved local school board training provider, the TAPP program began with three candidates, and a second annual outstanding Leadership Summit for our RESA members was held in early June.
While we are excited and encouraged about our past three years, we will continue to strive to meet the needs of our member school districts to continue striving for Excellence in Educational Support. We look forward to an enjoyable summer of relaxation, and preparation work for the upcoming school year. We believe in our mission, Excellence in Educational Support, is foundational in determining how and what we do, as outlined in our goals and strategies. Why we exist as the NG RESA is because we believe:
NG RESA recognizes that in order to understand the changes and shifts occurring in student performance, one must be able to dissect and generalize the data generated; thus determining how classroom and or school practices may be positively or negatively affecting overall student achievement. We also recognize that effective technology integration has been proven to improve student achievement. NG RESA also acknowledges that educational practices can always be improved upon via ongoing professional growth and development based on sound principles and research.
We will hire, contract, or enlist the best and most highly qualified personnel to provide training and information.
We will continuously assess and evaluate programming to ensure we are providing the right content to the appropriate audiences.
We will implement smart systems for timely communications including an up to date website, social media postings, and email blasts.
We will continuously review contact information to ensure that messages reach the right audiences.
We will create a strong network of support for superintendents, central office leaders and building leaders in which relevant and timely information is distributed and shared.
We will implement current bookkeeping practices and utilize data based decision making when budgeting expenditures and revenues.
We will pursue alternative funding sources to expand support offered by NG RESA.
We will work towards maintaining a 10% reserve of our yearly operating budget.
We will ensure that each department works within their appropriated budget.
We will make routine improvements aesthetically and in appeal and functionality of our facility.
We will prepare and maintain a five (5) year capital type of improvement plan for our facility.
We will as RESA staff receive up to date professional learning and training in order train, model, encourage, and utilize technology integration in classrooms.
We will provide teachers and leaders with resources and training to make better use of the technology they have available and will assist them in making decisions about what to purchase and how to integrate these products into instruction.
We will compile district and RESA member data in order to establish benchmarks and targets for improvement within our RESA district.
We will as a RESA staff, remain current our respect fields of expertise, and in education in general, by attending conferences, meetings, workshops and other venues relevant to our work.
|Samuel A. DePaul, Ph.D. completed his thirty-first year as a district superintendent on June 30, 2016. His tenure as a superintendent, has spanned four decades, serving five school districts, in three states. Dr. DePaul’s last position as superintendent was served in Colquitt County Schools, Moultrie, GA, where he lead the district for four years.
Dr. DePaul received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, his Master’s Degree from Westminster College, and his Bachelor’s Degree from Geneva College where he majored in biology and chemistry.
Early in his career he taught science and coached a variety of sports. After four years of teaching, he moved into an assistant principal’s position and was later promoted to principal. From that position, he moved into his first position as superintendent.
Dr. DePaul has a wide diversity of experiences ranging from curriculum and instruction to leadership to finances to school construction. He has always been extremely involved in community activities such as Rotary, Chamber of Commerce United Way, YMCA and many others.
Dr. DePaul and his wife Megan reside in Talking Rock, GA; and they have one son Sam, daughter-in-law Megan, and granddaughter Stella Rae.
